Halstead Parish Council has objected to six traveller pitches beside Knockholt station, a Bromley decision. Plus all 40 new Sevenoaks applications, by parish.
Halstead Parish Council has formally objected to six Gypsy and Traveller pitches on land beside Knockholt station. The land is just inside the London Borough of Bromley, so Bromley will decide the application. Sevenoaks District Council has been consulted as the neighbouring authority.
The consultation is one of 40 planning items Sevenoaks District Council validated in the week beginning 5 October. (Sevenoaks District Council, weekly planning list, Public Access) Ten are tree works and nine deal with conditions on earlier permissions.
The ones to know about
- Six traveller pitches next to Knockholt station. The application is for land on the north side of the station, off Sevenoaks Road, Halstead. Each pitch would have a mobile home, a touring caravan and a dayroom, with hardstanding. Bromley’s reference is 26/03531/FPA. (26/02610/ADJ)
- A new access track in a field at Knockholt. The owner of the field opposite Mountross Farm, Main Road, wants to change the existing highway access and build a track. The application does not say what the track is for. (26/02490/FUL)
- New bridges for Bradbourne Lakes. The council has sent in drawings and materials for the new bridges in its restoration of the park, plus a landscape and ecology plan covering at least five years. The lakes closed for the works on 28 September. (26/02386/DETAIL, 26/02383/DETAIL) We covered the closure and what the restoration includes.
- Odour and noise controls at the Fleur de Lis, Leigh. The pub company has sent the details a condition on its permission asked for. They cover odour and noise, and must show that carbon filtration will not harm the listed building. (26/02618/DETAIL) The pub applied for a premises licence in July.
- Four new homes across the district. One-bedroom house in place of a garage at 55 College Road, Hextable. A single-storey house with a basement on land east of 1 Fullers Hill Farm, Seal. A two-storey house in place of a garage, car port and kennel at The Willows, Brasted Hill Road. Redundant farm buildings at Manor Farm, Dryhill Lane, Sundridge, turned into a self-build home.
Why Halstead objects to the Knockholt pitches
The parish council wrote to Bromley on 7 October and copied in Sevenoaks District Council. (Halstead Parish Council, letter to the London Borough of Bromley, 7 October 2026) It asks Bromley to refuse permission on seven grounds:
- harm to the Green Belt and the open, rural edge between Bromley and Halstead
- highway safety around the station, including visibility, turning and towing caravans
- the site’s sustainability: being near a station “should not, in itself” count, given how often trains run
- landscape and visual impact, judged across all six pitches together
- drainage, utilities, waste collection, lighting and noise
- the effect on Halstead residents across the boundary
- the application being retrospective, which the parish says must not mean a lighter assessment
The parish council’s letter describes the application as retrospective. Bromley’s own description does not use that word. If officers are minded to approve, the parish asks for conditions limiting pitches, caravans, lighting and any further development.
Bromley emailed Sevenoaks on 2 October and asked for comments within 21 days. (London Borough of Bromley, consultation email, 2 October 2026) The Sevenoaks record gives 26 October as its own deadline to respond. Residents who want to comment should do so to Bromley, quoting 26/03531/FPA, through Bromley’s planning register or planning@bromley.gov.uk.
The district has its own traveller site cases running. The council’s planning committee meets on Thursday to decide three pitches at Troy Lane, Edenbridge.
