Polhill's grotto is £15.50 a child from 7 November. Hever's December weekends have sold out and Coolings has few left. Eight Santa visits compared.
If you want to see Father Christmas near Sevenoaks on a December weekend, you are already late. Hever Castle lists every Saturday and Sunday in December as sold out for Father Christmas, and still did in its 26 October update (Hever Castle). When we counted on 29 October, Coolings at Knockholt had between 7 and 11 places left on each December weekend day (Coolings).
November is a different story. The same two calendars show hundreds of places on the late November weekends, and weekday evenings in December are still wide open. November is also cheaper.
This page covers every Santa visit within easy reach of Sevenoaks for 2026. For each one it gives what you get, what it costs and what is still available. Where a venue has not published something, we say so rather than guess.

What is still available
Two venues publish enough for us to say what is left. Both tell the same story: weekends in December have gone or nearly gone, while November and December weekdays have room.
Hever Castle, as of 26 October
Hever updates a ticket availability page and last changed it at 08:48 on 26 October (Hever Castle). For Father Christmas it said:
- Sold out, daytime: Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 November, every Saturday and Sunday in December, and 21 to 24 December.
- Sold out, twilight: Saturday 28 November, every Friday, Saturday and Sunday in December, Thursday 17 December and 21 to 23 December.
- Limited, daytime: Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 November, and Friday 4, Friday 11, Wednesday 16, Thursday 17 and Friday 18 December.
- Good, daytime: Friday 20 November, 7 to 10 December, and Monday 14 and Tuesday 15 December.
- Limited, twilight: Friday 20, Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 November, Friday 27 and Sunday 29 November, 7 to 10 December and 14 to 16 December.
- Good, twilight: none.
The daytime lists are the same as in Hever’s 14 October update. Hever’s offer of 15% off Christmas tickets booked by 1 November excludes Father Christmas tickets (Hever Castle).
Castle and gardens tickets without Father Christmas had good availability on every date. Hever’s two SEN Father Christmas sessions have also sold out (Hever Castle).
Coolings, as of 29 October
Coolings’ booking calendar shows the number of places left in each 15 minute slot. We added them up for every date on 29 October (Coolings).

Between our counts on 19 and 29 October, the last weekend in November and the week before Christmas went fastest. Sunday 29 November fell from 102 places to 56, Saturday 28 November from 297 to 219, Monday 21 December from 203 to 88 and Christmas Eve from 29 to 14. Sunday 22 November dropped by 51 to 436, and Thursday 17 December lost four of its 32 slots from the calendar as well as 125 places. Every December weekend day now has 11 places or fewer.
What it means for you: if a weekend matters, book 21 or 22 November, which still have more than 400 places each at £20 a child, against £25 or £28 in December. If you can do a school-day evening, 14 December still had 170 places and 10 December 141.
Polhill Garden Centre, Badgers Mount
The closest grotto to Sevenoaks, ten minutes up the A21 at Badgers Mount, and the one most local families use. The format is a group story or song with Santa, then each child shares their wishes. A photographer is on hand and every child gets a present. Sessions are limited to 10 children (Polhill).
The 2026 run is weekends from 7 November, then daily from 26 November to Christmas Eve. Prices, rechecked on 15 October (Polhill on DigiTickets):
- child, any age from newborn: £15.50
- accompanying adult: £2.50, with a maximum of two adults per child
Booking is online only. Changes have to be made at least 72 hours before your session, and an administration fee is possible (Polhill). Polhill does not publish how many places are left until you open a date in the booking calendar, so we cannot tell you which days are filling.
Three details from Polhill’s own FAQ catch people out (Polhill):
- Babies need a full £15.50 child ticket, though they get an age appropriate present.
- The photograph is not included. You decide whether to buy it on the way out.
- The booking account is a DigiTickets one, separate from a Polhill Plus login.
What it means for you: at £2.50, a grandparent can come along for pocket change. Nowhere else on this page comes close. The exception is a baby, where Coolings is cheaper.
Coolings, Knockholt
Coolings runs Santa’s Woodland Grotto at its Knockholt site on Main Road, TN14 7LJ. It is ten minutes from Sevenoaks, in the other direction from Polhill.
The ticket covers a walk through themed festive rooms. Children write and post a letter to Santa and visit Mrs Claus’ Kitchen and the Toy Rooms. Then comes a private family visit with Santa and a gift the child chooses from Santa’s Toy Shop. Entry to Willow’s Birds of Prey and Wildlife Trail is included, which Coolings values at up to £29.99 for a family of four (Coolings).
The price depends on the date. From its booking calendar on 29 October (Coolings):

There is no grotto from 30 November to 4 December or from 7 to 9 December. Weekdays from 10 to 16 December run only in the late afternoon, with slots from 3.30pm to 6pm. On Christmas Eve the last slot is 2.15pm.
What it means for you: two adults and one child cost £40 on a November date at Coolings, against £20.50 at Polhill. What you buy is the private family visit. If your child freezes in a group, Coolings suits you better.
Hever Castle
The biggest Christmas event within easy reach of Sevenoaks. Christmas at Hever Castle runs from 20 November 2026 to 2 January 2027, themed around The Nutcracker, with the grounds lit from 4pm (Hever Castle).
Father Christmas does not appear on every open day. The estate is closed on 23 and 24 November, and there is no grotto on the days the grounds close at 6.30pm: 25 and 26 November and 30 November to 3 December (Hever Castle).
How it works (Hever Castle):
- Pre-booking is essential, online only.
- Every child seeing Father Christmas needs their own ticket. Each must be with an adult holding a Castle and Gardens ticket.
- Your grotto time is later than your grounds entry time and is printed on the ticket.
- Up to four adults per group can go into the grotto.
- No professional photos are taken. You can take your own.
- Tickets cannot be refunded, exchanged or moved to another date.
A Castle and Gardens plus Father Christmas ticket costs £36 for a child aged 5 to 17 and £17 for a child under 5. The accompanying adult pays normal admission, from £20 online at the saver rate to £28.50 at twilight peak (Hever Castle online prices PDF).
What it means for you: booking opened on 30 September, and the weekends went within a fortnight. If Hever is the plan, look at the daytime weekday dates marked as good availability above: Friday 20 November, 7 to 10 December, and 14 or 15 December.
Godstone Farm
Godstone Farm, just off junction 6 of the M25, runs a walk-through Father Christmas experience. Its dates for 2026 are (Godstone Farm):
- the last two weekends in November
- every weekend in December until Christmas
- every day from 18 to 24 December
The daytime ticket includes a festive show, the Wish Room, cookie decorating with the elves, a meeting with Father Christmas and a gift. It also includes the farm park and indoor play barn, so it fills a whole day. Daytime prices (Godstone Farm):
- child aged 2 to 15: £37.95 to £49.95
- child aged 1: £29.95 to £41.95
- under 1, with a gift: £24.95 to £36.95
- adult: £21.95
- carer: free
There is a cheaper dusk session from 5.30pm to 7pm. It skips the show, the cookies and the farm park, because the farm has closed. Every child pays £32.95 and adults go free (Godstone Farm).
What it means for you: two adults and one child cost £81.85 or more in the daytime, but the farm and soft play are thrown in. The dusk ticket at £32.95 for the same family is the better deal if you only want the Santa visit. Our Godstone Farm guide covers the rest of the farm.
The Polar Express at Spa Valley Railway
Not a grotto but a ninety minute theatrical train ride from Tunbridge Wells West. The story is performed on the moving train, with hot chocolate and a sweet treat on board. Santa gives every child a silver sleigh bell. Pyjamas are encouraged (Spa Valley Railway).
It runs on 32 dates from 6 November to 30 December 2026, mostly Thursdays to Sundays, then daily from 18 to 24 December and 28 to 30 December (Spa Valley Railway). Adults and children pay the same. When we read the fares in September, they ran from around £40 a head for quieter slots to over £70 close to Christmas. Two exceptions (Polar Express Spa Valley):
- Under twos sit on a lap for £5. They get a bell but no food or drink.
- Carers pay half price with the highest rate of DLA, the severe disability premium, enhanced rate PIP, or an Access Card showing a plus one.
What it means for you: with everyone paying full fare, a family of four is a serious outlay. An early November departure is the cheaper way in.
Bewl Water
Santa’s Quest at Bewl Water near Lamberhurst is a three hour event with workshops, elf shows and biscuit decorating. It ends in a private, personalised family visit with Santa and a gift from the Toy Exchange (Bewl Water). It runs on selected dates in November and December 2026, and one free parking ticket comes with each booking.
Prices, read from Bewl’s ticket shop on 30 September (Bewl Water tickets):
- Grotto and Quest: £62 to £77 a child, by date
- Mrs Claus enhanced tier, with a photo: £82 to £97 a child
- every adult: £30
- My First Christmas, for an under 1: £20, only alongside a child ticket
The 10% early discount on children’s tickets ended on 30 September. Two discounts remain (Bewl Water):
- Groups of six or more get 10% off the booking.
- An Essential Companion ticket is half price. It must be chosen at booking, with an Access Card, PIP, DLA or Attendance Allowance shown in advance.
What it means for you: two adults and one child come to £122 to £137 at the standard tier, against £20.50 at Polhill. The difference buys a three hour event rather than a grotto visit.
Groombridge Place
Groombridge Place’s home page now says Christmas tickets are on sale (Groombridge Place). It lists:
- a daytime event on 10, 11 and 17 to 24 December, with a surprise visit from Father Christmas and a gift, at £20 a ticket
- a twilight event from 10 to 23 December at £15, with a grotto ticket in the Baronial Hall at £20 a child
The page does not give a year, though, and the estate’s own tickets page still says it reopens at Easter. We cannot confirm these are 2026 dates. Check the booking page shows December 2026 before you pay.
What about Knole, Chartwell and Bluewater?
Knole has no grotto. Its Christmas programme for 2026 has two parts (National Trust, Knole):
- decorated courtyards and showrooms from Saturday 21 November to Wednesday 23 December
- a free family trail in the parkland from 21 November to 3 January, closed 24 and 25 December
Normal admission applies. Pre-booking is essential at weekends and in school holidays, including for National Trust members. It is a cheap festive afternoon, but it is not a Santa visit. Our Knole Park guide has the practical details.
Chartwell does not usually run a grotto either, so check its own page before driving over. Bluewater’s Christmas page currently returns a “not found” message and the centre has published nothing about a 2026 grotto (Bluewater).
Quieter sessions and access tickets
This is the part venues bury, so here is what is published for 2026:
- Hever Castle: its two SEN Father Christmas sessions, on 28 November and 5 December, are sold out. Carers get free general admission on a one to one basis (Hever Castle).
- Godstone Farm: SEND visits on the afternoons of Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 November, and at dusk on Thursday 3 and Tuesday 8 December. They promise soft lights, no loud music and a calm walk-through (Godstone Farm).
- Bewl Water: no dedicated SEND sessions. Bewl asks families to email christmas@bewlwater.co.uk before booking to discuss needs (Bewl Water).
- Spa Valley Railway: half price carers, as above (Polar Express Spa Valley).
- Coolings: no dedicated session, but the private family visit is the calmest format near Sevenoaks.
- Polhill: publishes nothing on this, so ring them.
Booking without getting caught out
Check three things before you pay:
- Who pays. Polhill charges an adult £2.50, Coolings £10 to £14, Godstone £21.95 in the daytime and nothing at dusk. Bewl charges every adult £30. On the Polar Express everyone over two pays the full fare.
- Session size. Ten children at Polhill, a private family visit at Coolings and Bewl, up to four adults in the grotto at Hever, a whole carriage on the train.
- The day itself. Neither Hever nor Coolings runs Santa on every day its gates are open.

How much does it cost to see Father Christmas near Sevenoaks? The cheapest is Polhill, £20.50 for one child and two adults (Polhill on DigiTickets). Coolings costs £40 for the same family on a November date (Coolings). Godstone Farm’s dusk visit is £32.95 a child with adults free (Godstone Farm). Bewl Water’s Santa’s Quest is the dearest, at £62 to £77 a child and £30 an adult (Bewl Water tickets).
Which is the cheapest Coolings date? Any of the four November dates: 21, 22, 28 or 29 November, at £20 a child and £10 an adult. December dates cost £25 or £28 a child (Coolings).
Is there a Santa’s grotto at Knole? No. Knole decorates its courtyards and showrooms from 21 November to 23 December and runs a free family trail in the park, but there is no Father Christmas (National Trust).
