No trains at all on Christmas Day, and Boxing Day moves to Monday 28 December. Day by day from 24 December to 4 January, plus what Southeastern must confirm.
There will be no trains from Sevenoaks on Christmas Day, and services on Christmas Eve will finish earlier than usual on many routes. Those two points are already fixed for 2026, and the second one catches people out every year.
Almost everything else is still to be confirmed. National Rail’s festive guide covers Thursday 24 December 2026 to Monday 4 January 2027, and says operator-by-operator detail starts appearing from the beginning of October.

Christmas Eve is the day that catches people out
National Rail’s advice is blunt about it. Do not assume the normal timetable is running on 24 December, and check that your whole journey is possible on that day (National Rail).
Its guide to the last trains out of London to towns and cities across the country will be published in late November or early December. For anyone doing an after-work Christmas Eve journey home to Sevenoaks, that guide is the one to wait for.
What it means for you: if you are planning a Christmas Eve evening in London, do not book anything that relies on a late train until the last-trains guide is out.
New Year’s Eve into New Year’s Day
Services on some routes finish earlier than normal on 31 December. After midnight, a number of London area routes run special services into the small hours of Friday 1 January 2027 (National Rail).
National Rail says its guide to those extra services will be published in early December. Whether the Sevenoaks line is among them is not confirmed for 2026.
What Southeastern has still to publish
Southeastern’s own Christmas pages are not out. National Rail says operator detail will start being added from the beginning of October.
Southeastern’s standing position on engineering work is worth knowing in the meantime:
- work is normally done at weekends, on bank holidays and after 22:00 on weekdays
- in some cases timetables are not confirmed until less than the usual 12 weeks before travel
- rail replacement buses make journeys longer than the train
- the calendar view on its Live Map shows planned work up to 12 weeks ahead

Buses over Christmas
GoBus, the Sevenoaks-based operator running most local routes, had published no Christmas timetable when we checked its website on 22 September 2026.
Local bus operators typically publish festive timetables in late November or December. Expect a Sunday-style service on the bank holidays and nothing at all on Christmas Day, which is the usual pattern, but treat that as an expectation rather than a published fact until the operator says so.
Driving instead
