Sevenoaks bank holiday bins: nothing on Monday 31 August

There are no bin collections anywhere in the Sevenoaks district on Monday 31 August, the late summer bank holiday. Every round that week moves one day later, so the last collections happen on Saturday 5 September. (Sevenoaks District Council, find your waste collection day)

The council’s notice covers all collections. It does not exempt food waste or garden waste, so a garden bin due on the Monday goes out for the Tuesday instead.

The week in one table

The council’s rule is simple: Monday’s round happens on Tuesday, Tuesday’s on Wednesday, and so on through to Saturday.

The 7am rule does not move with the day. The council asks for recycling, general waste, food waste and garden waste to be at the kerb by 7am on the collection day, which for a Monday household now means 7am on the Tuesday. (Sevenoaks District Council, find your waste collection day)

The tip is open on the Monday

Kent County Council keeps the Sevenoaks Household Waste Recycling Centre at Dunbrik open on bank holidays. The site, on Main Road at Sundridge, TN14 6EP, opens 9am to 4pm on bank holidays, the same as its Sunday hours, against 8am to 4.30pm on an ordinary weekday or Saturday. Two rules still apply on a bank holiday:

• you must book a slot before you arrive, and the county says entry without a booking is not permitted
• residents who do not pay council tax to a Kent council are charged £10 a visit

Trains: nothing on the Sevenoaks lines this weekend

Southeastern’s engineering plan for Saturday 29, Sunday 30 and Monday 31 August lists one piece of weekend work in this part of the network: Lewisham to Hayes on the Saturday and Sunday, and New Beckenham to Hayes on the Monday. The main line via Orpington and the Otford line both run a normal weekend timetable, and on the Monday a Sunday-style bank holiday service. Our train times to London page has the usual pattern. Roads: the M25 and A21 are clear until Tuesday night

National Highways’ seven-day closure report, issued on 26 August and covering the week to 1 September, lists no closures on the M25, the M26, the A21, the A20, the A2 or the M20 on Saturday 29, Sunday 30 or Monday 31 August. (National Highways, 7-day road closure report)

The overnight closures return on Tuesday 1 September, and two are local:

• A21 northbound, Morleys Road roundabout to the A25: carriageway closed 8pm Tuesday 1 September to 6am Wednesday 2 September
• A20 westbound, Swanley bypass link road: closed 10pm Tuesday 1 September to 5.30am Wednesday 2 September
• A21 both directions, Pembury to Cryals Road: closed 8pm Tuesday to 6am Wednesday, further south towards Tunbridge Wells

National Highways republishes the report every day and says plans can change, so a closure can appear at short notice. The county roads are a separate matter: Cotmans Ash Lane at Kemsing is shut for a new water main until October, and the September list of district closures is on our roadworks and travel page.

What it means for you

• Put the bins out a day later than usual all week, and still by 7am.
• If you are clearing the garden or the garage, Dunbrik is open on the Monday from 9am to 4pm, but only with a booked slot.
• Trains to London and to Tonbridge are not affected this weekend. Plan around Sunday 6 September instead.
• The motorway junctions at Sevenoaks and Swanley have no planned closures over the three days.
