Sevenoaks District Council has published a three-month programme of free and low-cost events for the over-55s, running from October to December under the name Silver Sevenoaks District. It takes in an afternoon tea celebration, free leisure centre Sundays, health clinics, discounted golf and a district-wide list of lunch clubs. “Silver Sevenoaks District is a wonderful way to celebrate older people,” said Cllr Lesley Dyball, Cabinet Member for People and Places, in the council’s announcement. “It’s a great opportunity for the over 55s to try new hobbies and meet new people.” The council recommends booking ahead, as it expects the events to be popular. The headline events
- Silver Celebration: Sunday 4 October, 2pm to 4pm, at the Bat & Ball Centre on Cramptons Road, Sevenoaks. Afternoon tea with music from the West Kent Concert Band. Book at sevenoaks.gov.uk/silvercelebration.
- Older Person’s Day: Friday 2 October, 10am to 2pm, at Westerham Hall, run by Westerham Town Council with information on local groups and services. Call 01959 562147.
- Silver Music Afternoon: Thursday 22 October, 1.30pm to 3.30pm, at the Eden Centre in Edenbridge, with refreshments. Book at sevenoaks.gov.uk/silversings.
- Silver Bells: Tuesday 8 December, 1pm to 3pm, at The Howard Venue in Hextable. A free Christmas party with music, games, prizes and a buffet. Book at sevenoaks.gov.uk/silverbells.

Free leisure centre Sundays
District residents aged 55 and over can claim a free one-day pass to the leisure centres at Sevenoaks, Edenbridge and White Oak in Swanley on the first Sunday of October, November and December: that is 4 October, 1 November and 6 December. Health checks in Edenbridge, exercise in Dunton Green
Edenbridge Memorial Health Centre hosts a free Ageing Well Clinic, 2pm to 3pm, with refreshments. The sessions run on Wednesdays: 7 October on physical health, 14 October on mental health, 4 November for carers, 18 November on technology stress, and 2 December on ageing well with occupational therapy. Golf, walks and the rail trails
District residents aged 55 and over get 25% off weekday tee times at Lullingstone Park Golf Course from October to December; bring proof of residency and book on 01959 583019. The council also points to its free walking groups across the district, and to the Darent Valley Rail Trails, a free walking app with routes between Swanley and Sevenoaks.
