Sevenoaks Christmas Bin Collections 2026/27: What to Expect

Sevenoaks District Council has not yet published its Christmas and New Year collection dates for 2026/27. We searched its website on 22 September and the most recent festive arrangement it carries is several years old.

This year the answer matters more than usual. Wheelie bins arrive across most of the district on 12 October, so Christmas 2026 will be the first festive period the new service has ever run.

What is confirmed for this Christmas

Three things are already settled, and none of them is a collection date.

• Wheelie bins start on 12 October 2026. Most households move to alternate weekly recycling and waste collections (Sevenoaks District Council)
• Garden waste stops for four weeks. The subscription service runs 48 weeks a year with a four-week break over Christmas and New Year (Sevenoaks District Council)
• The bank holidays fall awkwardly. Christmas Day is Friday 25 December 2026, the Boxing Day bank holiday moves to a substitute Monday 28 December, and New Year’s Day is Friday 1 January 2027 (GOV.UK)

Two Friday bank holidays and a Monday substitute is the worst possible shape for a collection round. It is why the catch-up usually runs into the second week of January.

Last year’s pattern, and it is only a guide

The most recent Christmas arrangement Sevenoaks District Council has published is for 2024/25. These are not this year’s dates. They are here because the council has followed a recognisable shape for years, and it tells you roughly what to expect.

In 2024/25 the council said staff would work extra days so nobody missed a collection, and that most collections would take place later than usual (Sevenoaks District Council, archived 14 December 2024).

Normal days resumed from Monday 13 January. Garden waste stopped after Friday 13 December and came back on Monday 13 January.

What it means for you: do not assume your bin day holds over Christmas, and do not assume last year’s slip repeats exactly. Put your bin out by 7am on the revised day, which is what the council asks on a normal week too.

Why this Christmas will not look like last Christmas

The 2024/25 table describes a sack service. From 12 October 2026 most households have wheelie bins on an alternate weekly cycle, with food waste collected weekly.

That changes two things about the festive period:

• A missed recycling week is a fortnight’s wait, not a week’s. On an alternate weekly cycle, a skipped collection hurts more, and Christmas is the heaviest recycling fortnight of the year
• Garden waste and general waste are now aligned by week. The council has moved some garden waste customers to a different week so the two fall together

The council has also confirmed a short pause already: garden waste sack collections are suspended from 12 to 16 October while the new service beds in. Collections from subscribed bins continue through that week (Sevenoaks District Council).

Christmas tree collections

The council has run a tree collection in past Januarys, but its Christmas tree page was not live when we checked on 22 September 2026. Seasonal pages of this kind usually reappear in December.

What to do if a collection is missed

The council’s offices close on bank holidays. They are open Monday to Thursday from 8.45am to 5pm and Friday from 8.45am to 4.45pm, with an out-of-hours emergency line on 01732 227000 (Sevenoaks District Council).

Report a missed collection through the council’s own form rather than by phone, and leave the bin out. Over the festive period the council has previously asked residents to allow an extra day before reporting.

Frequently asked questions

When are the Sevenoaks Christmas bin collections 2026? Not published yet. Sevenoaks District Council had issued no 2026/27 festive collection schedule when we checked its website on 22 September 2026. It normally publishes in late November or early December.
