A 1,133-name Edenbridge crossings petition, resurfacing dates for Greenwood Way and the A25 at Sundridge, and the Local Plan count: meetings 8 to 15 October.

A petition asking for safe pedestrian crossings near Edenbridge Medical Centre has 1,133 signatures. It goes to the Sevenoaks Joint Transportation Board next Tuesday, along with Kent County Council’s list of resurfacing dates for the district.

Before that, on Thursday, councillors get the first count of responses to the Local Plan. We have reported that separately.

Here is what each meeting in the coming week covers. All are in the Council Chamber, Argyle Road, Sevenoaks.

Date Meeting Main business
Thu 8 Oct, 10.30am Licensing Hearing Swanley Service Station 24-hour alcohol bid
Thu 8 Oct, 7pm Development & Infrastructure Advisory Committee Local Plan responses, for information
Tue 13 Oct, 7pm Sevenoaks Joint Transportation Board Edenbridge crossings petition, Cherry Avenue parking petition, road works programme
Thu 15 Oct, 7pm Development Management Committee Agenda due in the week before

Thursday morning: Swanley Service Station

A Licensing Hearing decides whether Swanley Service Station on London Road can sell alcohol 24 hours a day. The papers include the committee report and four appendices, one of them redacted. (Licensing Hearing, 8 October 2026, agenda) Six neighbours objected: our report on the 24-hour alcohol bid has the detail.

Thursday evening: the Local Plan count

The Development & Infrastructure Advisory Committee notes a report on the Local Plan consultation that closed on 17 September. It takes no decision. (Development & Infrastructure Advisory Committee, 8 October 2026, agenda)

The headlines from the report:

  • about 3,000 responses, with about 80% of respondents saying the plan is not sound
  • Natural England says the Pedham Place allocation near Swanley makes the plan unsound
  • the Broke Hill refusal was referred to the Secretary of State on 28 September
  • Full Council decides on 1 December whether to submit the plan

(Local Plan Regulation 19 Publication Update) The full story: 80% of 3,000 replies call the Local Plan unsound.

Next Tuesday: the Joint Transportation Board

The board brings district and county councillors together on roads. Kent County Council is the highway authority, so most decisions on crossings, speed limits and resurfacing are KCC’s.

Edenbridge crossings petition. The petition asks KCC to “urgently assess and provide safe pedestrian crossing solutions in the vicinity of the entrances to Eden Manor Residential Home and Edenbridge Medical Centre”. KCC received it on 7 September with 1,133 signatures. (Receipt of Petition, Pedestrian Crossings in Edenbridge)

The lead petitioner may send a written statement of up to 500 words and speak for up to three minutes. The chairman, with the board’s support, then decides whether to take the petition forward. If so, a report comes back to the board’s next meeting.

Cherry Avenue, Swanley. A second petition, on parking at Cherry Avenue, is listed on the agenda with no papers published yet. (Sevenoaks Joint Transportation Board, 13 October 2026, agenda)

Blue badge bays. The district council assesses requests for disabled parking bays outside homes on KCC’s behalf. Since the last meeting it has approved bays at:

  • Wisteria Gardens, Swanley
  • Reeves Crescent, Swanley
  • Russett Way, Swanley
  • Northfield, Sevenoaks

Nine requests were declined, most because the road was too narrow, there was no highway within 50 metres of the home, or the road was already at its 5% capacity for bays. A tenth, at Lea Road, Sevenoaks, is with KCC for review because the bay is for a child. Bays are being removed at Daltons Road, Crockenhill, and Cramptons Road, Sevenoaks, with no objections. (Applications for Disabled Persons Parking Bays)

Resurfacing dates for the district

KCC’s forward works programme for the board lists these machine resurfacing jobs still to come. KCC says the work depends on the weather and residents get a letter if dates move. (KCC, Highways Forward Works Programme, Sevenoaks, 13 October 2026)

Greenwood Way, Sevenoaks Full length, road and pavements 12 October
A25 Main Road, Sundridge Church Road to New Road 22 October

B2027 Tonbridge Road, Chiddingstone Causeway Little Brown Jug pub to the Old Stables 30 October

The same programme says:

  • pavement reconstruction on Swan Ridge, Edenbridge, from Swan Lane to Ridge Way, is due to start in late October
  • drainage work on Morleys Road, Sevenoaks Weald, to stop the road flooding, runs from 21 September to 11 October
  • a 40mph limit on the A233 Westerham Hill has been ordered, with installation expected in quarter 3 of the financial year, which runs October to December
  • a new footway on Shoreham Road, Eynsford, funded by Active Travel England, is expected to be finished in quarter 3
  • micro-surfacing on Pilgrims Way, Kemsing, and Brands Hatch Road, Fawkham, did not go ahead because KCC could not secure road space

Our roadworks and travel page carries the closures in force now.

Thursday 15 October: planning committee
